This was just me experimenting with things and learning some of the stuff, that I didn't get. So there are non nuclear missiles that I can shoot in the overworld. Also airplanes seem to be quite useful. In battle airplanes are a little underwhelming.

Building new ships is a lot of fun. The only thing I don't get is elevation between blocks. Some times a gun can shoot above other stuff, sometimes it can't. I think I need to google this aspect a little bit. Also I have a feeling like crew doesn't matter. Just have that default 60 from the cabin and you're good? I think in terms of optimizing ships, the best course of actions are specialization and general fuel/weight optimization.

I have a strong inkling that there are quite a few support ship ideas that don't need protection. Probably even legs or maneuverable engines. As they will never see the day of battle. Fuel tankers, scout ships with sensors. Maybe it's even possible to create decoy ships to distract the enemy, when I commit war crimes with nukes. Because that missile barrage was a little absurd.

The other specialization is tactical ships. No need for sensors or large tanks. Just optimize for battle. Can always group them together with tankers for range. Though tankers have to be fast then also, for the interception to work. Maybe it's possible to ditch the tanker, hit the city and then later have the tanker rejoin. Yeah that's probably the more sensible approach, then to sacrifice fuel economy on them. Anyway large guns, optimized defenses, where the dangerous stuff are hidden away behind thick layer of armor. Cabin, ammo, fuel are probably priority. Then generator, weapons, engines.

And third might be strategic support ships, like the airplane carriers or missile launchers. Probably have to rebuild the main ship also, so it costs nothing, maybe build it as a tanker with sensors or something. Then I can reuse the free money on building more optimized combat ships. Maybe even get like 3 strike groups to simultaneously attack cities. Might require first practicing battles a lot. As losing the tactical one probably means wasting a lot of fuel with the tankers, to get them back with the main group. Though I like the idea of small strike groups. As every time you combat, or restart combat all the ships lose morale. This way only a small section of them loses it. No reason to bring support ships with you at all. Only tactical ships lose morale and need to recoup this way.

And of course the second optimization is learning how the ship builder works so I can stuff things together better, to optimize weight and better defend the ships. The elevation mechanic is paramount. as this allows me to use more of my weapons in any direction. And there seemed to be some mechanic on allowing putting some stuff behind other stuff, like tucking engines behind tanks. Then comes the weapon decision. The smallest caliber seems to be best as missile defense and general large range poking. The largest calibers are super fun to shoot, but also very expensive and require good accuracy. The 220mm missiles seem really fun and the 180 does a magnificent blast, but in terms of optimization, I have a feeling like I'll end up relying on the smaller calibers. Probably 100mm for the destruction and AP rounds, and maybe the 37mm for anti missiles. Though maybe just try to dodge and use 100mm exclusively? Though then I need some other counter measure for if something manages to tactical missile me or sends airplanes my way. anti air missiles? Don't know.

Then again I'll probably change my ships and tactics a lot across the playthroughs I'll inevitably have to make to beat this game in a decent fashion. Maybe with enough practice I can just use those lightnings to get through the early middle portion of the game? Against bigger ships, no idea. With how much missile spam went on, either lots of flares or just have to armor up in the late game.

This game really gets the creative juices flowing.
