Upon trying to leave the village we meet the Proctor the wished Aloy to give up on the Proving. During their argument, a new enemy appears with the ability to corrupt other machines. After defeating the Corruptor Aloy learns how to bend some of the machines to her will. This allows some of them to be mounts that allow Aloy to travel faster. Upon arriving at the main gate leading to the Embrace we find it under attack from a corrupt Sawtooth. There Aloy meets Varl son of War Chief Sona and older brother to Vala. He asks Aloy to find his mother who commanded him to hold the gate preventing him from following her.
