How Could Nintendo Screw Up the Switch 2 GameCube Controller Like This?
Sometimes Nintendo just has to do Nintendo things. They can’t help themselves, it’s in their nature. One such example is the new Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube Controller. Nintendo has done a great job with the basics, the shape, the feel, the buttons. But they have, in the most Nintendo Way possible, overlooked one of the most common buttons on the Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 with this new controller. Which leaves me asking, how in the world could Nintendo scre up the Nintendo Switch 2 GameCube controller so much with 1 basic omission?
The controller looks great, you might be thinking, what am I talking about with something being missing on it? Look at the face of the controller, The back. The top. Do you notice anything missing? How about the lack of a Minus button? That’s right, one of the core functions of the Switch or Switch 2 Joy-Cons or Joy-Con 2 is conspicuous by its absence. At first glance, I thought the button next to the USB-C Connector was the Minus Button but no. That’s the Pairing button. None of the other buttons on the GameCube Controller function as a Minus button, meaning you need to use another controller WITH the GameCube Controller, if you want to access certain menu options.
I hadn’t really noticed this until playing Super Mario 3D All-Stars. I wanted to remap the buttons but looking at the controller I noticed the missing Minus button You literally cannot access the controller settings! This is very similar to the fact that the NES SNES, and N64 controllers all are missing home buttons! Nintendo just gotta Nintendo though!!
Even with this omission I still think this is a great controller, it just could be even greater. What do you think of the Switch 2 GameCube controller? Share your thoughts in the comments.
