How far can you travel in GTA San Andreas?
The map of SA is pretty big, with plenty of areas. There's also less hard limits when it comes to leaving the map... so how far can we go? Since this is a longer video than the other two, I'll have some timestamps to certain things listed below.
Well, it's not unknown that you can go far out of the map to trigger a few glitches, which if my memory serves me correctly are related to gang territories and coloured zone text. After three or four in game days, CJ will become hungry and eventually starve to death. Obviously, this is skirted around with the IAMNEVERHUNGRY cheat, so it seems we're free to go as far as we'd like to. Or so it seems.
Unlike with Most Wanted, where a number of things rely on the player's coordinates, San Andreas is quite happy with you being at Y: 3.4 million, which means we can go all the way to the highest possible coordinate before we are unable to proceed (this Pannen video will probably explain that phenomenon much better than I can: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hdFG2GcNuA ). However, just like Most Wanted, our direction along the X and Y axis has different effects.
It also seems that any modification to your coordinates (by deathwarping or etc) while the values are too high causes some interesting things to occur, typically offsetting your new coordinates to something ridiculous. After some messing around with changing my position in quick succession, I managed to get to a final position of X: 2.565711404e+21 Y: +Inf. Some possible memory corruption might occur too, as having an invalid coordinate whilst inside of a vehicle sets the "has Timed Bomb" in the vehicle data. I'm still not sure why having invalid coordinates, then starting a new game causes traffic to not spawn, but I believe that traffic starts to spawn again when you get close to the origin.
I know this went from a "how far" to a "what happens" kind of deal, but more interesting stuff happened than with Most Wanted, and certainly GTA 3. Regardless, for the various parts of the video:
