Final Fantasy has been in a bit of a limbo when it comes to nailing down the perfect gameplay for each of their titles.

I want to discuss how FF7 Remakes gameplay has likely been impacted by the trials of FF13 and FF15.

We know that FF13s trilogy had tried turn based gameplay but wanted to show more of an action oriented style at the same time. The trouble with this was AutoBattle became a must and in a lot of ways removed the strategic part of the battle system despite the Paradigm shift being in place.

We then saw FF13 Lightning Returns expand more upon the battle system they had already created. This game in my opinion was FF13s battle system at its best.

Looking forward to FF15 we know they went all out Action RPG. While they did implement a wait mode mechanic. few used it and I personally found it to be a bit lacking.

This brings us to FF7R. Where it seems they took the experiences of FF13 Trilogy and FF15 to create what theoretically would be the best modern battle system.

I think the users like the idea of having mobility and fast paced action while still implementing a ATB layer on top that would give us not only more of a strategic approach. But, also not leaving behind the core mechanics of what a Final Fantasy game could be.

So do we have Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XV to thank, for the success of the battle system we got with FF7R?

I think we do. Ever since Final Fantasy XII it has been a challenge nailing down the perfect battle system for our FF games. This seems as though it could be exactly what we have been waiting for.

Learning from FFXV how to develop a variety of characters that not only play differently but have different strengths in battle. It is evident that in FF7 we will not be seeing blank canvases for our characters. Everyone has a purpose when battling different foes.

Now this was not seen as much with Final Fantasy XV but has been expanded upon in the Remake.

Although It is clear everyone will not be pleased with anyone one decision Square Enix makes on the battle mechanics going forward. I believe this is likely to appease most fans.

Tell me what you think in the comments. Could this be the golden nugget we have been waiting for. And has Square Enix truly taken lessons from previous games to develop the FF7R mechanics.
