Over the years we’ve seen the character portrayed as the stoic leader of the Autobots. But he’s been shown to show emotion whenever he’s angered by the Decepticons or Humans. Which was thanks largely in part to him having a retractable battle mask where you could occasionally see his face. However, it wasn’t always like that. As seen in the G1 cartoon, leading all the way up to Transformer Energon. But that would changed by the time we got to Transformers Cybertron. Where he would first receive a retractable battle mask. And this feature would make its way into the live action movies. Becoming a mainstay for the character in later forms of media. But some fans tend to forget that this cool feature originated from an entirely different character. Which was Optimus Primal in Beast Wars. A series that would air 9 years before we would even see Optimus Prime sporting the battle mask. Which is ironic because we don’t see Primal with it in ROTB. But you can see OG Optimus using it multiple times in the movie.
