About this video: This video is our complete guide on downloading and install mods on a Minecraft 1.16.3 server. Now, I am assuming that you already have a Forge server setup. You can find our in-depth guide on getting a Forge server up and running for 1.16.3 in the description above. You MUST have a Forge server to get mods for a server in 1.16.3. If you don’t, this tutorial will not work.
You also need Forge installed locally in Minecraft. You can find our Forge tutorial on how to get Forge in the description above as well. You need to install that quickly in order for mods to work on your server.
Once you are finally done setting Forge on your server and in single player, you will need to download mods for your Minecraft server. For this tutorial, we will be installing World Edit, Xaeros Minimap, and HWYLA. However, now matter what mods you want to add to your Minecraft server, they are all installed the same way. Just make sure they are for the same version as your server.
Now, it is time to install mods on our Minecraft server. To do this, open up the Minecraft server folder where your jar file and other configuration files are. Here, you will see a ‘mods’ folder. If you don’t have a mods folder, you don’t have a Forge server, so go back and get one setup.
However, to install mods on your server in Minecraft, just open up that mods folder, and drag-and-drop the mods you want into this folder. Then, restart your Minecraft server. You will now see the mods installing and running in the console of your server. Don’t be alarmed by any errors right now. It is very common for mods to throw errors on the first start up as files are being generated.
You aren’t completely don’t yet though. You still need to install all of the mods on your server locally with Forge as well. To do this, search ‘%appdata%’ in the start menu, open up the roaming folder, open your ‘.minecraft’ folder, and here you should have a mods folder. If you don’t, just create one. Open that folder, and copy and paste all of the mods from your server’s mods folder into this mods folder.
After you have the mods installed locally, we can play on your Minecraft server with mods. Just open up the Minecraft launcher, click on the ‘Forge’ installation with the little arrow next the play button, and then click ‘Play’. You can now join your Minecraft server with mods installed! It’s that easy!
Congratulations! You now know how to download and install mods on a Minecraft server in 1.16.3.
