Well, the answer is pretty simple. Plugins allow you to do so much more with a Minecraft server. Everything from making builds easier to adding in custom features to making a Minecraft server more competitive, it can all be done with the help of plugins. Thus, without any more delay, here is how to download and install plugins on a Minecraft server in 1.16.4.
The first step of getting plugins on a Minecraft server is making sure that you have the correct kind of Minecraft server setup. What kind of server is that? Well, in truth, we recommend getting a Paper Minecraft server. PaperMC servers are lag free, open source, and very community supported. We use Paper, and so does every other server out there that has a decent amount of players. You can find our in-depth tutorial for getting a Paper server setup linked in the description above.
After getting your Paper Minecraft server setup, we can move on to learning how to download plugins for your Minecraft server. We have a link in the description above to 15 different Minecraft plugins that are all up-to-date and working in 1.16.4. No matter what kind of plugin you are using, this tutorial will work. However, the Minecraft plugins on our list are all great plugins and will work for most servers from survival to Factions to SkyBlock.
The download process for your Minecraft plugin is going to be different for every plugin. Just make sure that you are getting the correct version of the plugin. Some plugins may just be 1.16 compatible, but these usually work in 1.16.4. as well.
Now that you have plugins downloaded, it is time to learn how to install plugins on your Minecraft server in 1.16.4. This is actually very easy. Just open up your server folder. Here you will see a ‘plugins’ folder. Open up the plugins folders. To install plugins in Minecraft 1.16.4, just drag-and-drop the plugins you want into this plugins folder. It’s that simple and that easy.
When you restart your server, the plugins will install. You can then go back to the plugins folder to see all of the config files for the plugins you have. You can edit these files to customize the plugins on your Minecraft server.
