About this video: OptiFine is one of the most popular Minecraft mods ever made, and in this video, we show you how to add OptiFine to a CurseForge modpack. We go over the eniter process of how to confirm you can even use OptiFine with the CurseForge modpack you are playing to how to intall OptiFine with a CurseForge modpack and start playing Minecraft with it. Every single step of getting OptiFine on CurseForge is covered, so let’s jump into it!
First things first, I want to note that OptiFine won’t work with most modern CurseForge modpacks, and that is okay. Most modpacks have OptiFine alternatives already installed and working without you having to do anything such as the All the Mods and Better Minecraft modpacks.
If you run into a modpack that doesn’t have these by default, and you want to add OptiFine to that CurseForge modpack and it doesn’t work, we have OptiFine alternatives that you can use with CurseForge modpacks linked in the description above as well. That way no matter what you can add shaders to your CurseForge modpacks and get better performance.
As far as installing OptiFine of CurseForge though, the first step is determining what version of OptiFine you need to download. To do this, open the CurseForge App and ensure the modpack or installation you want to add OptiFine to is installed. Click on it, and here, you will be able to see the mod loader and Minecraft version.
OptiFine will only work with Forge modpacks. We will need to use OptiFine alternatives for CurseForge modpacks running NeoForge or Fabric, and we’ll go over those a bit later.
Once you know the version of Minecraft you need OptiFine for, head to the installation guide in the description above. Then, click “Download OptiFine”. From there, find the version of OptiFine you need. For older versions, click the “Show all versions” link.
When you have located the version of OptiFine you need, click the “Mirror” link next to it, and on the next page, click “Download OptiFine”. It will begin downloading, and you may need to keep or save the file.
From there, go back into CurseForge and right-click on the modpack you want to add OptiFine to. Click “Open Folder”. This will open the folder where all of your CurseForge modpack’s files are. There will be a “mods” folder. Open that, and move the OptiFine file you downloaded into this mods folder. You now know how to install OptiFine on CurseForge!
Now, you can go into Minecraft by playing the modpack normally. If everything works, you will be able to open the modpack and play. If you go to options, video settings, and shaders, you will be able to add shaders to your CurseForge modpack as well.
What if Minecraft doesn’t open after you add OptiFine to your CurseForge modpack though? Well, in that case, you will want to make sure that the modpack doesn’t have Shaders and Performance settings already. Most popular modpacks have this by default.
If not, you will need to use OptiFine alternatives. For Fabric and NeoForge CurseForge modpacks, you will use Sodium with Iris Shaders. For Forge packs, you will want to use Oculus and Embeddium. These can be downloaded from the links in the description above, and are installed in the “mods” folder for CurseForge modpacks the same ways as OptiFine.
