About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to make a server in Minecraft 1.21.2. We cover every single step of creating a Minecraft server in 1.21.2. That includes how to download the Minecraft server files for 1.21.2 as well as how to setup your server in Minecraft 1.21.2 and start playing on it.
First things first, I want to note that this is a server hosted on your own internet and computer. That means that anyone who joins your Minecraft 1.21.2 server will be able to DDOS, so make sure that you only give the IP to people you trust. You will also need a really good computer in order to host your server and play Minecraft 1.21.2.
With that in mind, let’s dive into how to setup a Minecraft server in 1.21.2. To get started, we will download the server.jar file. There is a link in the description above. That will take you to our text guide on making a Minecraft server. Click the “Download Minecraft” button there to go to the official download page for the server.jar. On this page, click the “minecraft_server_1.21.2.jar” link, and the server.jar will start downloading.
Next, create a “Minecraft 1.21.2 Server” folder on your desktop. Then, move the server.jar file you downloaded into the folder. At this point, it is worth noting, you will need Java 21 in order to start your Minecraft server. You can find it and the Jarfix linked above. Run the Jarfix after getting Java 21.
With Java 21 installed, double-click the server.jar file, and it will attempt to start your server. However, it will fail. There will now be an eula.txt file though. Open the eula.txt file with notepad, and assuming you agree to the Minecraft EULA, change “eula=false” to “eula=true” and save the file.
Now, double-click the server.jar file again. Your server will not start, and a console will open. You will be able to see your server working, generating your world, starting up, and eventually, it will say “Done” indicating your server is started and good to join.
At this point though, only you can join your Minecraft 1.21.2 server. To do this, open up Minecraft, and join the server using the IP address “localhost”. You are the only person that can join your 1.21.2 Minecraft server using that IP.
How will your friends join your Minecraft server? Well, in order to play with your firends in MInecraft 1.21.2, you will need to port forward. There is an in-depth port forwarding guide linked in the description above, but the short version is that you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. This will allow you to get your public IP and your friends will use that join.
So you will use the IP address “localhost” and your friends will use your public IP address to join the server after you have port forwarded. If you don’t port forward, your friends will not be able to join your server.
At this point though, you now know how to make a Minecraft server in 1.21.2. You may want to OP yourself on your Minecraft server. This can be done by typing “op YOURUSERNAME” in the server console’s text box and hitting enter. When you do this, you will be OP’d, and you can use commands on the server.
