To cancel your shot (lowering the weapon without firing) in Metal Gear Solid 2, click in the left analogue stick while aiming. This is useful if you want to remain hidden and not alert guards by firing off a round, or you simply wish to conserve ammo.

In the original MGS2, you could cancel your shot by gently releasing the button thanks to the PS2's pressure sensitive inputs. Without this option, in later versions, this new control method was offered instead.
