How to get Thermal Goggles in MGS2 (Tanker, Big Shell Thermal Goggles location)
2On the Tanker, the Thermal Goggles are found on the upper deck of the ship, near where you fight Olga, by climbing the mast.
In Big Shell, there are multiple opportunities to get the Thermal Goggles. The first is in Strut A's Deep Sea Dock at the very start of the game in the water. If you miss that, you can find it in the Shell 1 Core when finding Ames. If you miss that, you get a third opportunity during the oil fence sniper sequence later in the game.

The Thermal Goggles have many uses; as well as detecting enemies and infrared beams easily, they can detect claymores without a mine detector, traps on connecting bridges, and show whether a guard is holding a dog tag.
