How to Change the Output or Base Canvas Resolution & FPS on Streamlabs OBS (Easy Tutorial)
Adjusting the output resolution and base canvas resolution in Streamlabs OBS can significantly impact the quality of your live stream. Let’s walk through the steps:
Open Streamlabs OBS: Launch Streamlabs OBS on your computer.
Access Settings: Click on the settings cog icon in the lower left-hand corner of the Streamlabs Desktop interface.
Choose an Encoder:
Navigate to the “Output” section in the settings window.
You’ll find two types of encoders: software (x264) and hardware (NVENC).
Software Encoder (x264): This option uses your CPU to encode video. It provides good quality but may put more load on your CPU.
Hardware Encoder (NVENC): This offloads the encoding process to your GPU, reducing CPU load. However, the output quality might not be as high as with software encoders.
Choose the encoder that best suits your setup. If you have a powerful GPU or a dedicated streaming PC, consider using NVENC.
Quality and Resolution:
Select the “Video” tab from the side panel in the settings window.
Leave the base (canvas) resolution at 1920x1080 (standard size for most content).
However, lower the Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1280x720. Streaming in 1080p can strain your CPU, so this adjustment strikes a balance between performance and quality.
Change the CPU Usage Preset:
Still in the “Output” section, adjust the CPU usage preset.
The preset determines how fast the CPU encodes video. Optimize it based on your system’s performance
