About this video: In this video, we show you how to change the version of your Minecraft server. Now, this may sound like a simple and easy task, and overall it is as easy as replacing a file. However, there are a few different things that you want to keep in mind in order to make sure that you don’t corrupt your world or have any major issues when upgrading or downgrading your Minecraft server version. That is what we go over in this video. We also show you how to download old versions of the Minecraft server files as they aren’t the easiest files to get if we’re being honest. So, without anymore delay, here is how you can change the version of your Minecraft server!

The first step of changing your Minecraft server is creating a back-up. You want to have every single file on your server copy and pasted into a back-up server folder. This is because if you have any issues or corrupt your world, you will see have the back-up you can go back to. This is more important for upgrading your world than down grading (we’ll talk more about that in a minute). However, no matter what, you should always have a backup of your #Server before changing it’s #Version.

After you have your server backed-up, it is time to download the Minecraft server version you want to update or downgrade to. In the description above, you will have a link to MCVersions. This is a website that keeps an archive of all the old Minecraft server versions. You can search them, download them, and even sort them by year. This is a great site, and all downloads come directly from Mojang, so that is even better. Once you are on the site, locate the Minecraft version you want, and click the green ‘download’ button on it. That will take you to a confirmation page where you can click ‘Download Server jar’ to start your download. You will need to keep/save the file, but it is 100% safe.

Now, all you need to in order to upgrade or downgrade your Minecraft server is replace the server.jar in your server folder with the server.jar you just downloaded. However, if you are downgrading your server, be careful. You MUST remove/delete your world in order to downgrade a Minecraft server. While it is unfortunate, there is no truly safe and guaranteed way to downgrade a Minecraft server without causing major issues. This is why you must delete your world. If you do not delete your world when rolling back Minecraft server versions, you will most likely end up with a corrupt world folder that will have to be deleted anyway.

As far as updating your Minecraft server version, it is important to keep a backup of your world just in case. However, most likely you will be able to upgrade without issues. That is why we recommend only upgrading when you are 100% sure that you will not want to go back to an older Minecraft version.

And there you have it! That is how you can change the version of your Minecraft server. If you have any questions about upgrading or rolling back your Minecraft server version, be sure to let us know in the comments below, and if we did help you update your Minecraft server, be sure to give this video a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel if you haven’t already.
