41How to determine your Diff Ratio in your Classic or Muscle Car can be be important to get the most comfort cruise for your ride or to determine what you will put behind your Project Car.
This is one example of determining your diff without checking the gear numbering inside the diff. Make sure you have a rough idea of what diff ratios came out in your model car. For example, the XC Ford Falcon Series came out with a number of ratio's from the 3.23 for 6 cylinders, 2.92 for the 4.9lt V8 engine and 2.72 for the 5.8lt 351 Engine. I may have missed some but it give you an example.
So Jack up the passenger side rear wheel of your car. Make sure that you use car stands to ensure the its secure. Make sure the driver side wheel is still on the floor. You will need to mark the bottoms on the passenger wheel with a white pen or something you can clearly see. Then crawl underneath and mark two point of the pinion. that way you know where you start from. Then you have the turn the wheel for two full rotation whilst counting how many times the pinion turned.
The XC Ford Falcon turned 3 and quarter turns, making it a 3.23 diff ratio. So that how we determined the Diff Ratio. If you have a LSD Diff, then that different.
