About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to download and install worlds in Minecraft. This will let you add any custom maps you to want to Minecraft no matter what version they are, and we ensure that your map will work no matter what by confirming the perfect file formatting and more.
To get started, you will need to download a Minecraft map. There is a link in the description above to download some Minecraft maps, but you can also Google “Minecraft World Downloads”. When downloading a world, you will get a .zip file with all of the map files in it.
Right-click and click “Extract All” and extract all of the files from your Minecraft map. This will give you a new folder. Open that folder and keep opening folders until you see “DIM1”, “region”, and other files and folders such as a level.dat file.
Go back one folder, and move this folder to your desktop. As soon as you open the folder on your desktop, you should see the “DIM1”, “region”, etc. files and folders.
Now, open the Minecraft Launcher. Go to the “Installations” tab and hover over the Minecraft installation you want to add your map to. Click the folder icon that appears to open your .minecraft folder. In this folder, you should have a “saves” folder. This is where you will add maps to Minecraft.
Drag-and-drop the Minecraft world you want to pay into the saves folder. Make sure when more time when opening the folder with the map in you instantly see the DIM-1 and region folders as well as other files and folders. If you don’t, the Minecraft map will not work.
From here, you can play Minecraft and go to singleplayer. You will see your Minecraft world here. You may be prompted that the map is for a different version of Minecraft. In most cases, you can continue without any issues. If you do not things not working as expected in your map, you can change your Minecraft version in the launcher and play with the version the map was originally built in.
