About this video: This video is our complete guide on how to host a modded Minecraft server. We specifically look at making a Forge server as Forge is one of the most popular Minecraft mod loaders. However, the process is very similar for other modded servers as well.

To get started, you will want to download Forge by finding the download page on Google. Then, select the 1.21.8 version and click “Installer” under download latest. On the next page, wait a few seconds and click the red “Skip” button in the top right. It will then download.

With Forge downloaded, open up the Forge Installer. Click “Okay”, and it will install Forge locally. This is required to join a modded server, and everyone who is joining your server must have Forge installed and have the mods you added to the server installed as well.

Open up the Forge Installer again, and this time, click “Install Server”. A red box will appear. Click the three dots within the red box, and select “Desktop” on the right-hand side. Now, right click and create a new folder on the left side. Select the new folder you created. Click Okay and all of your modded server files will be added to your newly created folder.

Go to this folder and double-click the run.bat file. Some files and folders will generate including an eula.txt file. Open this and set eula=false to eula=true. Save the file and double-click the run.bat file again. Your server will now start.

To add mods to your Minecraft server, just add them to the “mods” folder on your server. You will also need to add them to the “mods” folder within .minecraft folder in order to join your server.

As far as the IP goes, you will join using the IP localhost. However, for your friends to join, you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. There is a complete guide on port forwarding linked above.

With that, you now know how to create a modded Minecraft server in 1.21.8. Please let us know in the comments if you have any issues, and we will try our best to help you out. Otherwise, if we did help you out, be sure to give this video a thumbs up and subscribe if you haven’t already. Thanks in advance!
