While the Oculus Quest 2 is an awesome virtual reality device, it's not immune to software hiccups that can cause problems. If you're experiencing problems on your Quest device and you've exhausted all of the options you can think of to address the issue, your final troubleshooting option should be to reset your Oculus Quest 2 to its default factory settings. To be clear, resetting your Quest 2 will remove your account information, and all downloaded games and content. In this video I'll show you how to reset your device using both the Oculus app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device, and using just the Oculus Quest 2 headset.

First let's walk through the steps to restore your Oculus Quest 2 to its default factory settings using the Oculus app.

Step 1. Make sure your Oculus Quest 2 is powered on.

Step 2. Launch the Oculus app on your iPhone, iPad or Android device that is paired with your Oculus Quest 2. You'll land on your Oculus home screen.

Step 3. Tap the "Menu" icon in the row of options along the bottom of the screen. The Menu screen is displayed.

Step 4. Tap "Devices" in the top part of this screen. The Device screen opens. If you own multiple Oculus devices, make sure the device you want to factory reset is selected in the drop-down menu at the top of this screen.

Step 5. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen to the Headset Settings menu, and then tap "Advanced Settings." The Advanced Settings menu is shown.

Step 6. Tap "Factory Reset" in this menu. A window pops up warning you that factory resetting your Oculus Quest 2 will remove your account information, and all downloaded games and content.

Step 7. Tap "Reset." Your Oculus Quest 2 will automatically be wiped and restored to its default factory settings, and as a result will be removed from your list of devices in the Oculus app.

Next we'll look at the steps to factory reset your Oculus Quest 2 using only the Quest 2 headset.

Step 1. Make sure your Oculus Quest 2 is powered off. If your device is already powered on and you press the button combination in the next step the screen you initiate the factory reset from won't load.

Step 2. Put on the Oculus Quest 2, and then press and hold down both the "Power" and "Volume Down" buttons at the same time until you see your Oculus Quest 2 start to power on. The device will load to the USB Update Mode screen.

Step 3. Press the "Volume Down" button to highlight Factory Reset, and then press the "Power" button. The next screen asks if you're sure you want to factory reset your Oculus Quest 2, and warns you that a factory reset will delete all of the data on your device and cannot be reversed.

Step 4. Use the volume buttons to highlight "Yes, erase and factory reset," and then press the "Power" button. Your Oculus Quest 2 will automatically be wiped and restored to its default factory settings.
