How to Fix Blinking Red Light on Firestick Remote (Easy Method)
To fix a blinking red light on your Firestick remote, you need to figure out whether it’s blinking slowly or quickly, as each means something different. A slow blinking red light signals low battery power, while a fast blinking red light points to a problem with the remote itself. Here’s how to address both situations step-by-step.
If the red light is blinking slowly, it’s a battery issue. Open the back of your remote by sliding the cover off. Take out the two AAA batteries. Replace them with fresh ones—make sure the + and – ends match the symbols inside the compartment. Put the cover back on and press any button. The light should stop blinking if the batteries were the problem. Test it by trying to navigate the Firestick home screen.
If the red light is blinking fast, there’s a deeper issue with the remote, and resetting it is the best fix. Unplug your Firestick from its power source—either the TV’s USB or a wall adapter—and wait 60 seconds. While it’s unplugged, press and hold the Left button and the Menu button (three horizontal lines) on your remote together for 12 seconds. Release both buttons and wait 5 seconds. Remove the batteries from the remote. Plug the Firestick back in and wait until it boots up fully, which takes about a minute. Put the batteries back in the remote. Press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds to pair it again. The light should stop blinking fast and might flash blue briefly if pairing works—though not all remotes show lights.
If the fast blinking persists after resetting, try pairing it manually. Unplug the Firestick again, wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in. When the screen says “Cannot detect your remote,” press and hold the Home button for 10 seconds until it connects. This forces a re-pairing.
Should the remote still blink red fast and not work, the batteries might be fine but the remote could be faulty. Test it with another set of new batteries just to rule that out. If it’s still blinking, use the Fire TV app as a backup. Download the Amazon Fire TV app on your phone from the App Store or Google Play Store. Sign in with your Amazon account, connect to the same Wi-Fi as your Firestick, and select your device in the app. Use it to navigate to Settings, then Controllers & Bluetooth Devices, then Amazon Fire TV Remotes. Select Add New Remote and press the Home button on your physical remote for 10 seconds to pair it again.
