How To Generate Over 18 kW of Steam Power With The Geothermal Power Plant! Sandbox Showcase #35
21Welcome to Sandbox Showcase! In this series, I talk about various problems in Oxygen Not Included and how I've solved them with my own designs in previous streamed and non-streamed runs, by building them in Sandbox mode.
In this video, I talk about how to set up the Geothermal Power Plant on Frosty Planet Pack asteroids to generate crazy amounts of Steam power! This unique map feature can actually handle 30 kg/s of Water and heat it up by 150° C with very little automation; this is 18806 kDTU/s of heat energy, enough to grab up to 18.2 kW for your colony via Steam Turbines (about 14 kW net after Aquatuner cooling). Compared to other heavy duty power sources such as Nuclear Reactors and rocket chimneys, the Geothermal Heat Pumps are a lot less complicated and easier to access in the early-to-mid game. It's probably the main thing you should be focusing on whenever your playing these asteroids as that much power will solve almost any problem eventually.
