About this video: This video will teach you how to increase the max player count on your Minecraft server. Now, keep in mind that even though you will know how to increase your max player count, you can’t have any amount of players you want actually join your server. Your server will still be limited by the hardware it has. However, in a lot of cases, you still may want to change your Minecraft player count. So, without anymore delay, here is how to update the max players on your Minecraft server!
First things first, you will need a Minecraft server in the first place. I’m sure most people watching this video do already have a server. However, if you don’t have a server, we have a link to start your own server in the description above. It will show you everything you need to know to start your own Minecraft server.
After you have your server, open up the main server folder. This is where all of your server files and folders are located. Here, you will see a ‘server.properties’ file. Open this file with either notepad or the text editor of your choice. In this video, we use Atom, but you can use any text editor you are comfortable with.
With your server.properties file open, we can go ahead and find the ‘max-players=’ setting. By default, this will be set to 20 players. However, to add more players to your Minecraft server, just change the 20 to the amount of players you want to be able to join. For example, if you wanted to allow 50 players to join your server, you would change this setting to ‘max-players=50’. You can change this number to anything you want just make sure you save the server.properties file when you are done.
After you have change the max players setting, restart your server. Then, you will see the max player number has increased for your server! Keep in mind though that you cannot have unlimited players join because the hardware your server is hosted on will not allow that. The better the hardware the more players that can actually join.
Nevertheless, you now know how to update the max player count on your Minecraft server.
