About this video: In this video, we show you how to get Minecraft Java Edition for free if you have Xbox Game Pass. Now, I do want to acknowledge that Xbox Game Pass is not free, and you must have a subscription in order to play Minecraft Java Edition for free with it. However, many people, myself included, pay for Xbox Game Pass to use it with other games. Minecraft Java Edition is just a bonus as I would pay for Game Pass even if Java Edition wasn’t included. Thus, for those of use who are in that camp, Minecraft Java Edition is essential free with Game Pass. So, without anymore delay, here is how to download and install Minecraft Java Edition for free with Xbox Game Pass.
First things first, we need to make sure that you have Xbox Game Pass for PC or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. Both of these subscriptions give you access to Minecraft Java Edition on your PC. You can do this by opening up the Microsoft store. In the Microsoft Store, search for ‘Game Pass’. Scroll down until you see ‘Memberships’. Click on Xbox Game Pass for PC, and if you see a ‘Manage’ button in the top right, you have Xbox Game Pass and will be able to get Minecraft Java Edition.
After you confirm you have Game Pass, open up the Xbox App by clicking the little Windows icon in the bottom left of your PC and search for ‘Xbox’. Click on the Xbox App there, and it will open. Then, in the top of this app, click the search box. Then, search for ‘Minecraft Launcher’. You must search for that entire phrase if you want to get Minecraft Java Edition. You will then see the ‘Minecraft Launcher’ under the search box. Click it, and you will be taken to the Minecraft Launcher’s installation page. There will be a green ‘Install’ button. Click that, confirm the settings you want to install the game with, and click ‘Install’ again. The Minecraft Launcher will then install!
Once the launcher is finished installed, there will be a green ‘Play’ button. Click that, and the Minecraft Launcher will open up! With the launcher open, you will be prompted to login to your Microsoft account. Click that, and login. You will then be taken through a process to create a Mojang account in order to play Minecraft Java Edition. Once you are finished, you will land in the Minecraft Launcher. On the rigth-hand side, you will be able to select Minecraft Java Edition.
With Java Edition selected, you can click the green ‘Play’ button in the center of the screen to launch Minecraft Java Edition! On the main menu, you will be able to select singleplayer or multiplayer. You can then create a world or join a server depending on which you decide to play.
