How to Listen to yourself Speak with Microphone on Windows 11 PC (Best Method)
To listen to yourself speak on a Windows 11 PC, you need to enable a feature called "Listen to this device." This routes your microphone's input directly to your speakers or headphones. This is a great way to test your microphone's quality, check for background noise, or just get a feel for how you sound.
The most direct and reliable method is through the classic Sound Control Panel.
The "Listen to this device" Method
This is the built-in, no-extra-software solution that works for most users.
Open the Sound Control Panel.
Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar (in the bottom-right corner).
Select Sound settings.
In the Sound settings window, scroll down to the Advanced section and click on More sound settings. This will open the old-style Control Panel window.
Navigate to the Recording Tab.
In the Sound Control Panel window, click on the Recording tab.
You will see a list of all your connected microphones.
Access Microphone Properties.
Find the microphone you are currently using. Speak into it to see the green audio bars light up, which will help you identify the correct device.
Right-click on your microphone and select Properties.
Enable the "Listen to this device" feature.
In the microphone's Properties window, click on the Listen tab.
Check the box next to Listen to this device.
Select Your Playback Device.
In the dropdown menu below the checkbox, ensure that your correct output device (your speakers or headphones) is selected under "Playback through this device."
Click Apply and then OK.
You should now hear yourself speaking through your chosen audio output. To stop listening, simply go back to the same menu and uncheck the "Listen to this device" box.
