How to Make Apps & Text Easier to Read on Android Phone (Bigger, Bold, High Contrast)
Making apps and text easier to read on your Android phone involves using the built-in Accessibility and Display settings to adjust the size, weight, and contrast of the text and screen elements.
Here is a guide to the best methods for better readability:
1. Make Text and Apps Bigger
There are two key settings for enlarging content on your screen:
Setting What it does How to find it (General Steps)
Font Size Only makes the text larger across all apps (where supported). 1. Go to Settings. 2. Tap Display or Accessibility. 3. Look for Font size or Font size and style. 4. Use the slider to increase the size.
Display Size (or Screen Zoom / Screen Size) Makes everything on the screen larger: text, icons, buttons, and overall app layouts. 1. Go to Settings. 2. Tap Display or Accessibility. 3. Look for Display size or Screen zoom. 4. Use the slider to increase the size.

Tip: Increase the Display Size first to enlarge the overall user interface, and then increase the Font Size separately for maximum text magnification.
2. Make Text Bolder
Making the text bolder can significantly improve readability, especially for people with mild vision impairment.
Go to Settings.
Tap Accessibility (or Display).
Look for Text and display or Vision enhancements (on Samsung phones).
Find and turn on the toggle for Bold text or Bold font.
3. Increase Contrast (High Contrast)
Android offers settings to change the color and contrast of text and background elements to make the text "pop" more.
Feature What it does How to find it (General Steps)
High contrast text Adds a dark or light outline around the text to increase the difference between the text and the background. 1. Go to Settings. 2. Tap Accessibility. 3. Tap Text and display or Vision enhancements. 4. Turn on the High contrast text toggle.
High Contrast Theme (Samsung Only) Downloads a theme that replaces all backgrounds with a very dark color and text with a very bright color (white/yellow). 1. Go to Settings Accessibility. 2. Tap Vision enhancements. 3. Look for High contrast theme and follow the prompt to download one from the theme store.
Dark Theme (System-Wide) Changes the phone's background to black or dark gray and the text to white. This is often easier on the eyes, especially in low-light environments. 1. Go to Settings. 2. Tap Display. 3. Turn on the Dark theme or Dark mode toggle.

4. Advanced Visibility Options
If the standard settings aren't enough, you can find other helpful features usually grouped under Accessibility.
Feature What it does How to find it (General Steps)
Color Correction Adjusts the way colors are displayed on the screen to help people with color blindness. Settings Accessibility Color and motion Color correction.
Color Inversion Reverses the colors on the screen (white becomes black, black becomes white). This can be very helpful, but affects images and media. Settings Accessibility Color and motion Color inversion.
Reading Mode (or Focus Mode)
A downloadable Google app (on Pixel/Stock Android) or a built-in feature that removes distracting elements like ads and reformats long-form text into a highly-readable, customizable overlay (you can change the font, size, and background color). Search for Reading Mode on the Google Play Store or check Settings Accessibility.
