About this video: Minecraft Java Edition is one of the most popular games ever made. However, you can’t play Minecraft Java with a controller by default. In order to use a Xbox controller, PlayStation controller, or any other controller with Minecraft Java 1.20.1, you will need to get a controller mod. The specific controller mod that we are going to show you how to install in this video is Controllable.
Controllable 1.20.1 is a Forge mod. If you want a Fabric Minecraft 1.20.1 controller mod, we have one called Midnight Controls linked above. We are going to be using the Controllable mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 in this video though.
Before we can get the Minecraft Java controller mod though, we need to download and install Forge. You can find a complete guide on how to get Forge 1.20.1 in the description above. That guide covers everything that you need to know to get Minecraft Forge for the controller mod even covering potential issues you may have along the way.
Once you have Forge, we can move on to how to download the controller mod for Minecraft 1.20.1. You can find a link in the description above that will take you to the “Controllable” download page. On this page, click the “Files” button. Find the 1.20.1 version of Controllable and click the three dots next to it. Then, click “Download File”. The 1.20.1 controller mod will start downloading.
You also need the Framework mod in order to play Minecraft Java with a controller. You can find a link to the Framework mod in the description above. The download process is the same as Controllable just make sure you are getting the 1.20.1 version of the mod.
With Forge installed and the controller mod downloaded, we can move don't to how to install the Minecraft controller mod in 1.20.1. This is actually pretty simple. Just open up the Minecraft Launcher and click “Installations” at the top. Hover over the Forge installation and click the folder that appears. This will open your .minecraft folder.
In your .minecraft folder, you will have a “mods” folder. If you don’t, create one! Open the mods folder, and drag-and-drop Controllable and the Framework mod into your mods folder. You now have the controller mod installed in Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1!
How do yo use a controller on Minecraft Java 1.20.1 from here though? Well, launch Minecraft using the Forge installation. Then, on the main menu, plug in the controller you want to use with Minecraft to your computer. If the controller is Bluetooth connect it.
From there, the Minecraft controller will recognize it, and you can begin playing Minecraft java with a controller.
