How to Prevent Overcharging & Fires on Motorola Phone Settings (Android Tutorials)
1. Motorola's Built-in Battery Features (Software Settings)
Motorola phones include features to manage charging and reduce battery degradation, which can lower the risk associated with battery stress. These settings can usually be found in the Battery menu in your phone's Settings.
A. Overcharge Protection (Charging Limit)
This is the most direct setting to prevent prolonged charging at 100%, which stresses the battery and can contribute to heat buildup.
What it does: For many newer Motorola models, enabling this feature limits the charge to 80% most of the time to extend the battery's lifespan. The phone may occasionally charge to 100% for calibration purposes (e.g., once a week).
Note: On older models, or with older software, this feature's description might say it only limits charging after the phone has been plugged in continuously for 3 days. However, for many recent models, the function has been updated to limit the charge to 80% immediately.
How to Enable:
Go to Settings (The gear icon).
Tap on Battery.
Look for Overcharge protection and tap on it.
Toggle the feature On.
