How to Select ALL ITEMS to Delete or Copy on PC (Best Method)
The best and most efficient method to select all items in a folder on a Windows PC is by using a simple keyboard shortcut.
Method: The "Select All" Keyboard Shortcut
This shortcut works universally in File Explorer, on your desktop, and in most applications (like Word, Notepad, or a web browser) that contain selectable items.
Open the folder, window, or application where you want to select all items.
Press the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + A.
This will instantly highlight and select all files, folders, and/or text in the current view.
Once the items are selected, you can then perform an action:
Delete: Press the Delete key on your keyboard.
Copy: Press Ctrl + C to copy them to your clipboard. You can then navigate to a new location and press Ctrl + V to paste them.
Cut: Press Ctrl + X to cut (move) them.
Move/Drag: Click and hold any of the highlighted items with your mouse, and drag them to a new folder.
Alternative Methods for Selecting Multiple Items
While the Ctrl + A shortcut is best for selecting everything, there are other useful methods for selecting specific items:
Selecting a range of items: Click the first item you want to select, hold down the Shift key, and then click the last item. This will select all items in a consecutive line between the first and last click.
Selecting non-adjacent items: Click the first item, then hold down the Ctrl key and click each additional item you want to select individually. This is useful for picking out a few files from a long list.
Using the Mouse: Click and hold your left mouse button on a blank area, and drag a box around the items you want to select. All items within the box will be selected.
