How to use your Phone as a Web Camera on PC or Laptop for OBS (Best Method)
The most reliable and feature-rich method for using an Android phone as a webcam for OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is by using the DroidCam OBS plugin. This method is superior to simply using the standard DroidCam client because it provides a direct, integrated source within OBS, offering better performance and more control.
Step-by-Step Guide using DroidCam OBS
Step 1: Install the Necessary Software
On your Android phone: Download and install the DroidCam OBS app from the Google Play Store.
On your PC: Download and install the DroidCam OBS plugin for your specific operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux) from the official Dev47Apps website. Make sure you get the correct version that matches your OBS Studio version.
Step 2: Connect Your Phone to OBS
You have two primary connection options: Wi-Fi or USB. The USB method is generally recommended for its stability and lower latency, but both work well.
A) Wi-Fi Connection Method:
Ensure your Android phone and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Open the DroidCam OBS app on your phone. It will display a Wi-Fi IP and a Port number.
Open OBS Studio on your PC. In the Sources section, click the "+" icon and select "DroidCam OBS".
In the properties window that appears, make sure the "Connection" type is set to "WiFi".
Enter the Wi-Fi IP and Port from your phone app into the corresponding fields in OBS.
Click "Activate". The video feed from your phone should now appear in your OBS scene.
B) USB Connection Method:
Enable USB Debugging on your phone. To do this, go to Settings About phone and tap on the "Build number" seven times to unlock Developer options. Then, go back to Settings, find Developer options, and enable USB debugging.
Connect your phone to your PC using a high-quality USB cable.
Open OBS Studio on your PC. In the Sources section, add a "DroidCam OBS" source.
In the source properties, select the "USB" connection type.
Click the "Refresh Device List" button. Your phone should be detected and appear in the dropdown menu.
Select your device and click "Activate".
Step 3: Customize Your Camera Settings
Once connected, you can adjust various settings directly within the DroidCam OBS source properties in OBS Studio:
Video Quality: Change the resolution and frame rate (up to 1080p or even 4K with the Pro version) to suit your needs.
Camera: Select whether to use the front or rear camera on your phone.
Other Controls: Depending on the app version, you may be able to adjust focus, zoom, and exposure settings remotely from the OBS interface.
By using the DroidCam OBS plugin, you'll be able to leverage your Android phone's superior camera for high-quality live streams, video calls, or recordings directly within your OBS scenes.
