How to Turn on Push to Talk or Push to Mute on Mic for Steam (Key Shortcut)
6To enable Push-to-Talk for your microphone in Steam, follow these steps:
Launch the Steam app on your computer.
Click the “Friends & Chat” icon in the bottom right corner to open the Friends & Chat window.
In the Friends & Chat window, click the gear button (settings icon) to access the Friends List Settings menu.
Select the “Voice” tab.
Scroll down to the “Voice Transmission Type” section and click “Push-to-Talk”.
Assign a hotkey of your choice to activate your microphone. I recommend using the tilde (~) key, as it’s easily accessible during gameplay and rarely interferes with the game itself.
Optionally, toggle the setting to have a short sound play when you press and release the chosen key.
Close the window, and you’re all set! Your microphone will now activate only when you use the assigned hotkey.
Remember, this feature helps filter out unwanted background noise during voice chats. Enjoy your gaming experience without distractions!
