This video will show you how to update and play Games For Windows LIVE PC games online on GFWL over the internet. In this video, I use Capcom's Resident Evil 5 PC as an example to enable online co-op gameplay over the Games For Windows LIVE platform (GFWL). Games For Windows LIVE has been updated since this game has been released, and if the user tries to log in to GFWL through the RE5 game, Games For Windows LIVE will inform the user that GFWL requires updating, and if you try to update Games For Windows LIVE within the title, the update process will fail. Therefore, in order to play Resident Evil 5 PC online, you will have to update the GFWL client manually.
Note that I could NOT get this title to run under Windows XP, and HAD to run the game under Windows 7.
First off, if your game boots to a black screen and gets you stuck at this black screen, code in the game has become corrupt. The easiest way to fix this is to uninstall the game, reboot your PC, and reinstall the game.
I required two components to to play Resident Evil 5 PC online under Windows 7 64bit:
Games for Windows Marketplace Client (gfwlivesetup.exe)
http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/Live/PC/DownloadClient
Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant 6.5
http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=15106
After the installation of each of these components, try to run your Resident Evil 5 title and see if the GFWL components of the title connect to the GFWL service as intended (giving access to such things as your GamerScore, Achievements, and Friends list).
Note that if during the install of the Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant, you receive this error:
Windows Live ID Sign-In Assistant Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to end the Setup Wizard.
then try the following steps which I learned through reading the following webpage:

1) Download either wllogin_32.msi if you have a 32bit Windows or wllogin_64.msi if you have a 64bit Windows
2) Copy your downloaded wllogin file into the root directory of your primary partition (i.e. C:\)
3) Create a directory by the name of temp in the root directory of your primary partition (i.e. C:\temp)
4) Press the WINDOWS START BUTTON (or WINDOWS KEY) and execute one of the following msiexec command lines, dependent on whether or not you are executing the 32bit or 64bit wllogin:
Msiexec /i wllogin_32.msi /l*v C:\temp\setupLogs.log NOMU=1
Msiexec /i wllogin_64.msi /l*v C:\temp\setupLogs.log NOMU=1
