How to use Controller as a Mouse on STEAM PC (Best Method)
3Steam's built-in "Steam Input" system is the most powerful and flexible way to use a controller as a mouse on your PC. It allows you to create a "Desktop Configuration" that defines exactly how your controller behaves when you're not in a game.
The Best Method: Creating a Desktop Configuration
Open Steam: Launch the Steam desktop client.
Access Controller Settings:
In the top-left corner, click "Steam", then "Settings".
In the Settings menu, select the "Controller" tab.
Open the Desktop Configuration:
Click the "DESKTOP CONFIGURATION" button. This will open a new, full-screen window where you can customize your controller's actions when Steam is active and no game is running.
Configure Your Mouse Movement:
A diagram of your controller will appear. The right joystick or a touchpad (if your controller has one, like the DualSense) is typically the best choice for mouse movement. Click on the icon for the input you want to use.
In the new menu, change the "Style of Input" to "Joystick Mouse" or "Mouse".
You can then adjust settings like Sensitivity, Mouse Acceleration, and Deadzone to fine-tune how the cursor moves.
Assign Mouse Clicks:
Go back to the main controller diagram.
Click on the buttons you want to use for mouse clicks (e.g., the right and left triggers, or the "A" and "X" buttons).
In the button's configuration menu, select the "Mouse" tab and choose "Left Click" or "Right Click".
Add Other Useful Functions:
Consider assigning other keyboard shortcuts to buttons. For example:
"Escape" to the "B" button.
"Enter" to the "Start" button.
"Back" to the "Select" button.
"Scroll Wheel Up/Down" to a directional pad.
Save Your Configuration:
Once you are finished, simply back out of the menus. Steam will automatically save your changes, and your controller will now act as a mouse whenever you are on your PC's desktop with Steam running.
