This is something you could pretty easily make into a TTRPG module. It has a simple plot hook: received a distress call from a remote colony.

You go to help the colony, and simple-ish solution seems easy enough, but wait.... there's sooo much more... and loads of ethical questions.

This episode went in weird directions with the ethical questions too. Not sure they made GOOD decisions, but hey, what decisions would YOUR party make?
