Howler for an Hour: Dig Dog (Part 2)

Honestly, I didn't think this would be very good. It's only $3 on Steam, and it uses a pretty simple pixel art style. It seemed lined up to be a lazy, quickly-made game trying to ride on retro aesthetics... But I was quite wrong.
Don't get me wrong, this game is pretty simple. Dig, Dash, Get Bones, Die Real Easily. But there's an elegance to this simplicity. The art has a great style, the gameplay is difficult but fast-paced and never wasting your time, the controls are tight and when you really master them you can pull off some sweet combos!
It doesn't play a whole lot like Dig Dug, and yet it still does. I never liked Dig Dug's slow pace; this is way faster. But like Dig Dug, you have to take every enemy seriously; every one of them has a motif to them, a way they react to how you move around the level. You act, they react; and it works beautifully and gives the experience this puzzle element as you play.
I really recommend picking this one up. It's really great fun for less than the cost of a burger.
