A humble name. A humble appearance. An awesome game. :D

Lizard is not just your run-of-the-mill 'trying to be 8-bit' Steam game. This sucker's actually been reproduced on actual NES cartridges; this is, for all intents and purposes, an authentic homebrew NES game made this year.

This adventure is strange and captivating. An open-world platformer starring you as, apparently, a human that slips into different lizard suits for different abilities. Each lizard has a particular area to conquer and boss to fight, which leads to one of several endings. There are also coins to collect around the two different worlds you flip between as you explore.

It's hard, too. One hit death, no way to fight back against (most) foes. There's no lives, the game relying on a checkpoint system, but the checkpoints are rather spread out. It can make surviving to the next checkpoint rather tricky at times, but this game never managed to totally frustrate me because it's just so intriguing in its own right. The controls are solid too; there's an odd but deliberate momentum to your jumps, and the different lizards affect your movement in different ways.

This is a real gem right here. I only beat two bosses in my hour with this game, but I'm totally coming back for more. It's a truly enjoyable NES platformer~
