Oh boy, I was looking forward to this one. :D

Treasure Adventure World is a remake of Treasure Adventure Game, a game released in the ancient era of 2011. Though its name sounded very generic, it was a free game and I decided to give it a chance years back. I ended up playing the heck out of it (100%'d it!) and discovered quite a well-made gem. Sometimes, you can just tell a developer put their heart into something.

Treasure Adventure World seems to be a beat for beat retelling of that old adventure. The simple but charming pixel graphics of TAG have been replaced by lovely drawn art, the catchy music has been completely remixed into higher-quality tunes, and the gameplay feels relatively as tight as the original! This is essentially the same plot, the same progression as the original, but with such a fresh coat of paint I'm happy to play this adventure once again. (And who knows...perhaps there is new content as well? I haven't played enough to tell, just yet~)

So what is this game? Essentially, Zelda: Wind Waker in 2D. This is an action-adventure-platformer with lots of collectibles to grab, upgrades to seek out, and many many islands to explore. It's open-world and non-linear, and with a day-night system as well. It's really engaging, just as much as the original. :D

The only real issue I see with this game is perhaps some minor gripes about the controls. It feels as if the protagonist slips and slides around more than I remember him doing in TAG, making platforming and not sliding into enemies a little more challenging. The game-pad button layout - which seems not to be something I can remap - is also a bit odd; B for jump, Y for attack? It is very usable, but it took some getting used to, considering platformers generally have a different layout than this.

All in all though? If you like a good Metroidvania, or Zelda, or just a good 2D adventure game in general, you really should check out this game. It's brand new and yet only costs $10 on Steam, too! Well-worth the price!
