ICFL 7 [Devil Daggers] - Demonic Bubbles!
1Devil Daggers is an excellent and deceptively simple first person shooter! I'm not normally a fan of FPS games, but this is an exception! The mechanics are flawless. Movement is very smooth and you learn how to play very quickly. That said, it's very difficult to master, and that's by design, because everybody is competing for top spots on the world leaderboard, which includes the ability to watch replays of the best runs. You die a lot in this game, but luckily you can restart very quickly. You literally press a single key and you begin the game again to try for a better score. The graphics are very dark and pixely, making it feel like a game from another era, and definitely in a good way. The custom sounds are excellent, and even enhance the gameplay with 3D sound. With headphones on you can hear where your enemies are coming from. There's virtually no story to speak of, but it probably doesn't need one; this is one of those cases where a story would probably detract from rather than add to the experience. All you need to know is that you're stuck in this abysmal arena forcing numberless demonic legions over... and over... and over... and... over...
