There comes a time when you have to move forward from space exploration to space colonization. To make the giant evolutionary leap from visiting space to living in space. Of course, a few unlucky Kerbals have been living in space for decades, but we want to extend that experience to more and more Kerbals! Because we want to cut through the pith of the Fermi Paradox and place the Kerbals in the forefront of spacefaring civilizations in the galaxy. To colonize the stars, drink Tang (or Dr. Pepper) made from your own recycled pee and eat highly compressed foods supplemented by delicious cultured cyanobacteria from your life support system bioreactor, this is the destiny of Kerbalkind!

In this the conclusion of Part 1, we struggle with some minor orbital issues and attempt to land our very balky and un-maneuverable spacecraft on the lumpy surface of Duna's moon Ike.

One final note, KSP 0.17.1 is out now, but since it didn't add any notable improvements and broke all my most important plug-ins, we won't be worrying about upgrading until 0.18 which comes out sometime in mid/late November so I hear. However, when that happens whatever we will have been working on will likely disappear, and whatever plugins we are using likely won't work anymore, so we have a finite amount of time before we are thrust back on fewer working parts and no working plugins. So we have some choices to make, and I want to hear what you think. Should we:

1. Focus on the Ike Base and the exploration of Duna (I am working on a kethane-powered spaceplane for that purpose), or,

2. Do a grand tour of the whole system with the Starship Seven electric spaceplane or some derivative of it. I think they are making changes in the electricity system for 0.18 (they certainly broke the electricity plug-in on 0.17.1), so it might be our last chance for awhile.

Let me know what you think. I will probably do some of number 1 regardless, but if we are going to complete #2 we probably should finish up with Ike and Duna by the first week of November or so at minimum.

Oh, and I just found out that Journey Into Space was the name of a 1950's BBC Science Fiction radio show! Thanks to rabasiticamphibian for the info!
