iPhone 13 Massive Problem With Copy Speed Transferring ProRes Video Files Lightning Is Way Too Slow!
0It's 2021 and welcome to the Apple iPhone 13. The world's most cutting edge smartphone that still uses an external data bus speed based on technology first introduced in 2012 (Lightning is basically USB 2).
A very simple message here. The continued use by Apple of using Lightning for the iPhone 13 range of phones is going to be a VERY SERIOUS problem. Lightning is far too slow, the same super low speed as USB 2, for transferring, moving, copying and backing up video files, especially ProRes.
When running out of internal storage space on an iPhone 13 when shooting video you will have to move or save the video files from the internal memory storage to an external USB SSD or other storage device. This video shows just how slow and laborious the process is and I was only using a 3GB file to demonstrate the problem.
This problem will also be the same when transferring your iPhone 13 footage to a Mac for editing and it becomes even worse when transferring to a Windows PC for editing as there are other issues to consider when transferring to a Windows PC.
Think about the iPhone 13 Pro or the iPhone 13 Pro Max shooting high bit rate ProRes with up to 1TB of internal storage and now think about how long that amount of data is going to take to transfer to an external SSD or other storage device or a computer, at USB 2 speeds and that's only theoretical speeds.
