The Machine Gun and Gatling sentries serve to provide fire support for light and medium enemies in Helldivers 2. The Gatling sentry has greater firepower, but the machine gun sentry has a much shorter cooldown. The gatling sentry is great for static defenses, like objectives and extraction, which the machine gun sentry is great for mobile helldivers who fight impromptu skirmishes using hit and run tactics.

Neither sentry stops shooting between targets. The Gatling sentry, with three times the firerate, is much more likely to unalive a helldiver. Safe and effective placement is key for effective usage to minimize the Helldiver deployment budget.
