The Callisto Protocol has received “mixed” reviews, to put it lightly.

And, after playing through the game, I have some ideas on why I think it’s disliked by so many.

Also, at the end of this review, I’ll tell you the type of gamer who I think may actually love this game.

I’m going to be a little harsh, but, overall, I did like The Callisto Protocol - it just has flaws that are hard to look past.

I think the biggest problem is that what you see doesn’t coincide with what you get.

The visuals are truly amazing, but the gameplay just doesn’t match the standard of quality set by the graphics.

The gameplay isn’t bad, but it's simple, somewhat repetitive, and stands in stark contrast with the detailed and elaborate environments.

Gamers just don’t like it when a game tries to present itself as something greater than what it actually is - they see straight through it.

But if you are a fan of linear, straightforward, old-school survival horror games, I don’t think you’ll regret playing The Callisto Protocol.

If you know what you’re getting into, and your expectations are lined up, you might end up really enjoying it.

That way, the overly polished graphics feel more like an added bonus, and less like the developers were overcompensating.
