It Takes Two | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
Previously me and my good friend Wuzi have completed and archived A Way Out which was a great co-op game for 2 players. The same developers have also made It Takes Two and this in particular is considered amongst many as the best co-op game ever made and even won Game of the Year at the Game Awards.
It Takes Two tells the story of a couple that is going through a rought time. They are thinking of splitting and this bears a heavy burden on their daughter. Through magic the two parents' souls get transported into dolls and now they have to go on all kinds of whacky adventures in order to be turned back. And as we work together we might also rekindle that spark and save our marriage.
The game is leagues better than A Way Out which I also thought was a great game. But that felt more like an adventure game and with It Takes Two it feels like a proper platformer that turns into many different things to spice up the gameplay. Every 20 or 25 minutes you will be introduced with new gameplay mechanics and tools that give you new abilities. The developers made sure that each player gets to do something drastically different and ensures that no one is ever doing the same job twice. At one point a player gets a weapon with which they can shoot honey and then the other player has a weapon that can detonate the honey if they aim at it.
Then later on one player gets the ability to turn incredibly large or incredibly small and the other player has magnet boots so that they can walk on walls and ceilings. The puzzles that they come up with here are very clever and you really have to communicate with your friend or partner in order to get things done. There is such great variety in locales as well as you will be going to snowy mountains, prehistoric jungles, dangerously deep waters or the inside of a giant tree where a war wages on between squirrels and wasps.
The game is also very lengthy and offers plenty of secrets to find in the form of minigames and more.
I loved my time with It Takes Two, but I don't know if I think its the best co-op game ever made. I would have to think about that for a while to make a list to see which other games have great co-op.
Now that A Way Out and It Takes Two have been scratched off the list, all that remains is to play and archive their most recent game...Split Fiction!
