Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
A few weeks back I really had the urge to play some retro platformers from the PlayStation 2 era. I have already archived the first Ratchet and Clank game, but one of my personal favorites still has to be the first Jak and Daxter game. When I got my PlayStation 2 it was the first game that I got with it and it holds a special place in my heart.
It was created by Naughty Dog who were responsible for the popular Crash Bandicoot series. Jak and Daxter promised more platform goodness with plenty of things to collect in open zones that you could reach without loading times. In a sense the game plays it pretty safe in terms of gameplay, but for me it is the atmosphere that is absolute peak in this game. With the tropical setting it feels lik you are on vacation and the world is so colorful and vibrant. The music is also very nice and relaxed and overal I am just vibing whenever I pick up this game again.
The humor is also great and actually made me laugh a couple of times playing it for my recording. There is a certain 2000's nostalgia to the type of humor and dialogue delivery that made me feel nostalgic. Many people consider Jak 2 to be the better game, but I actually think the traversing back and forth between missions takes away from the experience and to me the first Jak game is still the best. I have never played Jak 3 so maybe that will change my mind someday.
