Jerp plays Risk of Rain 2 [day 1] - Ya know, 3d was a pretty solid upgrade (2021-03-16)
1After way too much of a wait, I'm finally checking out Risk of Rain 2. I played a decent bit of the first game and even though I didn't dig super deep into it (mostly favoring Commando), the item synergies were fun, the world's interesting, and the music of course was excellent.
Risk of Rain 2 going 3d was a pretty big shock to a lot of players but now having played it, I think the change smooths the gameplay a lot. There's much more room to maneuver and have much more mobility than the first game where I felt compelled to bunny hop around instead of sticking to the ground and firing in place.
Outside of the perspective change, the game overall feels pretty strongly reminiscent of the original - even what seems to be a lot of returning enemies, items, and of course the music keeps the same general tone while branching out to feel like a step up to match being a sequel.
