Played on the Flycast emulator.

Here's something different that I stumbled across during the winter that caught my interest. For those unaware, KenJu is an Atomiswave based 2.5D style fighting game made by DreamFactory. If you've never heard of it, it makes perfect sense, because the game never made it out of beta testing for Arcades before it was cancelled. Sad thing about it though is that the game is basically near finished (around 90%), with very minimum stuff needing to be fixed up side some character stuff and proper balancing. It uses a graphic cel-shading style similar to the likes of the old Fear Effect games, and a fairly interesting cast.

Gameplay-wise, it's as if Capcom's Rival Schools/Project Justice & Street Fighter III and Arc System Work's usual flair had a baby. It's a 4 button fighter, 1-on-1 style, that utilized chain & air combos, defensive parries, the ability to select one dedicated super out of 3, and finally a "Pressure" meter system that sway one way or the other based off of the momentum of the match, and when it's fully on one side (indicated by the "DANGER" message), being hit with a heavy attack gives the attacker the ability to do SFAlpha style cancel combos that REALLY rack up big damage.

Rina & Mina in particular function as a 'stance switch style' character(s), like Pyra & Mythra in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Rina (the blue twin) is the more defensive charge inputs character, while Mina (the purple twin) is the more offensive motion input character. You can swap between the two with a command when idle to use their strengths to win battles. I'm also interested in the kunoichi character, Nanoha, but decided to give these two the spotlight for this video since there's next to no footage of these two being played online.

Surprisingly, for an unreleased game, the cabinet has a few modes of play. A standard "Normal Arcade" run of 8 characters (no boss), story mode (8 stages, with a boss at the end [no one has endings]), a survival gauntlet, and time attack modes.

So, with all that explained, here's a little run of this hidden relic. I had a lot of fun with it. Honestly, this video was meant to be longer, as each character has a totally different alternate outfit for their 2P, and I wanted to show off Rina & Mina's alt through the story mode route. Only problem in that: story mode is the only place where you actually wind up finding and fighting the game's final boss, ZINE and well.... let's just say that he was NOT tested well at all because he's one of THE cheapest final bosses I've ever fought, and beating him is gonna require some dedication I'm not willing to dump into a video yet... but ONE DAY... these two girls are gonna kick his ass. And I WILL make sure to film it.
