If you only just have a shield to protect yourself, everything seems so tough to accomplish. You only need your wits in this platformer and strategy-based game called Key & Shield. The task given to your cute character is to rescue the other creatures called Babas from their cages. Once you rescued all creatures, the level is completed. Use your shield to glide in the air. This will help your character reach the platforms far from you. The shield also serves as protection from fireballs and other projectiles of monsters. But don't touch these monsters or else your character will get eliminated.

Aesthetics:

The game’s graphics look good and they are bright and colorful. They are hand drawn which look really good as well as have fluent animation to make it look better. They even made an attempt to have a little opening. It’s like a comic book opening showing how Key got his trusty shield and how he must save his people. The music of the game is also good and it suits the environment and the game. The music does repeat from the start to the end which can wear out after some time.

Gameplay:

The game has the player control Key or the character that looks like a smiley face but with a serious one. The players can control Key letting him move around as well as jump. The shield comes into play in two different ways. Key can use the shield as a protective device to reflect enemy shots. When jumping, the shield can be used to glide down to make landing slower. The main objective in each stage is to simply free your fellow ball people who are imprisoned in the cage. When that task is done, the stage is done and the players can proceed to the next one. There are two other sub-objectives like collecting coins and freeing a Baba. If all three objectives are done then the players get a Gold medal. If only two are done then a Silver medal is awarded and a Bronze one if only the main objective is completed. Once the player completes the stage they have the option to redo it or move forward. Players can choose to go to different areas on the island as long as they’ve finished those areas. While the objectives sound simple, the stages themselves pose a little bit of a challenge. First of all when collecting coins, they have to collect all the coins to get the medal. Players also have to rescue all the Baba which can range from just one to two them. There are also the enemies of the game. There are only two enemies being the red ones which can be stomped on to be defeated and the fire ones which shoot fire but they can’t be killed. There are also a ton of obstacles to overcome. There are the rolling stones, the pitfalls, the spikes and the exploding bombs. The turtles are neutral but they can be used as trampolines to get higher and into specific spots. The stages vary in the designs and lay-outs. There are those that are easy but some are just challenging but are really worth to finish and continue.
