Kid Chameleon High Scores - Hills of the Warrior I (23,280 Points) [WR]
Normally, the fastest way to complete this level would be to use Cyclone, but with the discovery of helmet reset glitch, it is much more viable to grab the Skycutter helmet mid-way through the level, and restart instead. He can fly just like Cyclone, except he has MUCH faster horizontal speed. In my opinion, Skycutter makes the beginning part of this level much harder, because there are a couple of precise flips that need to be done, as opposed to one precise enemy bounce as Cyclone.
As far as controlling Skycutter, I can't offer much advice, as it's just a matter of practice in getting used to his awkward properties. However, I will say that the only way to reach the critical times of 5:33, 8:32, and 8:28 will be if you manage to continuously move right and not hit a single wall throughout the entire level. This is an extremely difficult task, with several precise jumps/flips throughout the level to avoid certain obstacles. It's kind of difficult to describe the placement/timing of each one, so all I can say is copy exactly when I do my jumps/flips in the video, and you should avoid hitting most of the walls. I actually do get slightly stopped up just before the long row of ghost blocks at 0:51, but luckily, there's some leeway for reaching the first critical time. Still though, the first critical time is 5 seconds before the end of the level, so everything before that needs to be almost flawless. The second clock can be collected within one second of the first and the flag can be captured within four seconds of the second time clock. So as long as the first critical time is met, the rest of the level should be very easy.
Two rounds of invulnerability need to be used in this level, one to avoid a giant column of shooter blocks (unavoidable), and the other to pass through a dragon (avoidable, but inconvenient to do so). Nothing at all tricky about it.
Here's a helpful tip that could help expand your control on Skycutter: did you know that if you are flipped upside-down and rising as Skycutter, you will rise faster if you are not holding a left or right direction? Yeah I know right!?!? For some reason, holding left or right makes you rise slower... for reasons that don't make much sense. This property actually comes into use in some later levels, but an indirect effect of it was used in this level at 0:43. If you let go of holding left or right and hit the top margin of the screen, you will actually flip right-side up faster than normal. In the situation in the video, you see that holding left or right while upside down between the top margin of the screen and a barrier 3 blocks below, you will be perpetually stuck bouncing upside-down between the two barriers. However, letting go of left or right increases your flipping speed from the screen's top margin, such that you will flip right-side up in such a narrow gap. In this situation, you need to be flipped right-side up so that you can duck below an upcoming shooter block.
There are actually other tricks and minor considerations that should be taken into account when saving time as Skycutter. Since they are rather minor considerations as far as this level goes, I will not discuss them until they become major, which will be on Sinister Sewers.
