Kid Chameleon High Scores - Shishkaboss (23,340 Points) [WR]
Before I even begin to enumerate what the hell even happens here, I'd just like to say that for me, this was probably the hardest IL score record to achieve out of all the levels. That is because unlike all other levels, this one actually requires that you pull off a frame/pixel perfect trick. Not to mention that there are two tangents that have to be made to get time clocks, the time range in which to achieve an 8:34 is one of the toughest.
The first step is actually relatively easy. It requires that you Samurai Haze to slow the speed of the heads, so that you can jump on the top head, and defeat him before he even reaches the top of the screen, within the first five seconds of the level!! The most efficient way to do this is to jump and use Invulnerability at the exact same time; the marker I use for when to do this is as soon as I pass the third leaf on the background palm tree above the iron blocks.
Immediately after, you will need to drop below and start bouncing on the middle head. However, you will only have time to get in three hits, as you need to get the first clock in the cave behind the column of ghost blocks. The fastest time in which to get this clock is 5:50, and the best way to collect it is to simply let it drop to you before jumping. This is because you will have to wait about another second when exiting the cave before you can land another hit on the boss, so waiting as long as possible on that second to collect the clock is the most efficient method.
The next step is pretty hard, in that it requires that you bounce on the middle head as soon as physically possible. If done at the earliest possible time, you should be able to land three hits before descending. The player must be careful as landing more or less hits than that will likely be hit by Shishkaboss's projectiles when they land. Luckily, landing three hits before descending should put the player above the bottom head, and not trigger the middle head to shoot anything.
Ok, the previous step was quite precise, but no highscoring trick in the entire game compares to how precise this next step is. When landing, try to slash the bottom head with your sword as many times as possible (about 8) and here comes the insanity. When Red Stealth is standing still, his sword his pointed outward in a straight line. Exactly on the frame when the very top pixel of the bottom head enters the same pixel height as your sword, you need to use Samurai Haze. Continue slashing the bottom head (5 hits) until the boss starts to move to the right.
The reason why Samurai Haze needs to be used at such a precise time is because when the boss begins to move right, he will be at a favorably precise altitude to Red Stealth's sword. As soon as Shishkaboss starts turning right, Red Stealth will begin hitting the middle head instead of the bottom one. Hitting this head 14 times will reveal that as soon as the middle head is defeated, you will still be able to slash at the bottom head without changing height!!! And that is why using Samurai Haze on that exact frame earlier is so important. There is only one row of pixels between each of the heads on Shishkaboss to which Red Stealth will be able to slash both without changing vertical position. It is a crazy insane trick, but it saves quite a bit of time, and is therefore worth it.
But you're not out of the woods yet. See, Shishkaboss will progress to the right so slowly that if you hit the bottom head the remaining seven times, it is likely that you will be touching the flag as Shiskaboss is defeated. The reason why this is bad is because you still have another time clock to collect! For this reason, take it slightly slower slashing the bottom head than you normally would, and then as soon as he's defeated, haul ass to the time clock all the way to the left. You should barely get it at 8:34, and finish at 8:34.
Boss levels are the hardest levels to both speedrun and highscore in this game because of how dynamic they are. This one in particular required one of the most stupidly hard tricks I've ever encountered. So please, whenever you are watching a video as hard to make as this, appreciate just how hard I must have worked on it to make it possible. In that case, I hope you enjoy :)
