KILLER7 Review in 60 Seconds #short
Want a surreal on-rails shooter where you shoot at invisible enemies who blow themselves up? Then check out this condensed version of the Cheapness affordable gaming review of Killer7 [Episode 84]
This is a condensed version of the review of the on-rails shooter Killer7 (By GRASSHOPPER MANUFACTURE INC.) that shows how:
-It has good, fun on-rails combat if the experiment is a bit clunky (You actually move yourself from a sort of cinematic 3rd person view where you can go forward, turn around or aim to shoot - at which point it goes fps and the enemies are invisible until you scan them) ... some may prefer the word deliberate
-The enemy variety is nice and their different movement and weak spots to aim for require different approaches and that counteracts your near static nature and makes gameplay more dynamic (Some bosses are mini games)
-And to top it off the game does have light rpg mechanics and simple puzzles (Adds novelty more than anything else really, a change of pace)
-And the weirdness does not stop at the gameplay: The plot and imagery are weird too as the thumbnail of a speaking severed head with a ring in its mouth attests (Some may say it's just a bunch of weird stuff tossed together and others may say it's unique, cool and surreal)
-The story though may have more style than substance. It's stylish, creep, even esoteric in presentation and may be intentionally difficult to understand with a multiple personalities trope that pays off in an arguably annoying way (Don't worry that actually doesn't spoil much - that's the problem). The journey is far greater than the destination and the story is surreal too which is not for everyone
-The visuals are good, if aged (Cel shading still works but not in all respects. Some areas look grungy such as surfaces that use texture instead of cel shading and stands out in an unpleasant way and the enemies look grungy too with really grating, splotchy skin combined with pure white jagged teeth or sometimes neon cel shaded skin being really bright but arguably this can fit with this horrific enemy faction. Character design is good too as one of the characters has a wheelchair mounted 50. Cal)
-Great sound design (The enemy laughter, satisfying gun blasts and a weird, more unique take on CAPCOM's menu and reactive informational sound ques) decent music and good voice acting (If they can get hammy but maybe that's the fault of the game's action movie tropes that break up the weirdness)
Thank you for watching this review and I truly hope I turned you onto your next game whether through identifying its cheapness, quality or weirdness.
