A metal arrangement of "Killer", Yoshikage Kira's Theme from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, Part 4: Diamond Is Unbreakable.
It's been a while since I've done an anime cover, and I've had this cover partially done for a year or two, so I figured I may as well finish this one off! Jojo definitely has some of the best composed music in anime and out of most TV shows in general in my opinion, so I'm always happy to keep covering stuff from this series. Let me know if there's anything else you want to hear!
The original is quite an interesting piece, as it's orchestral but not the typical "epic" sound you'd usually expect from an anime. Instead, it's very dramatic so I wanted to play that side of things up. I kept the first part of the song relatively tame, but used guitars, keys and bass to create the creepy vibes instead of the classical/orchestral instruments, as well as using some lead bass in the intro just for something unique (so special shout out to Noble for nailing that)!
The super dramatic part that has been meme'd to oblivion now, I knew that would have to be exactly where the heavy part kicks in! I kept the rhythm guitars fairly simple, outlining power chords and keeping the groove, in order to get the vibe I wanted. However I thought a bit of death metal influence would work when bringing back the particularly spooky bit from the soft section. Blast beats, tremolo picking and overuse of the whammy bar definitely ups definitely upped that initial spooky vibe into something more sinister and evil sounding, fitting of this serial killer's theme!
The mix wasn't too difficult on this one, I approached is as two separate songs, and neither parts were especially stacked like my covers usually are, so luckily that part went smoothly.
