Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team was actually my first ever Pokémon game, and because of that I have a lot of attachment to the music in this game. I can't quite tell if it's music is criminally underrated or if it's just my nostalgia, or maybe both! Either way, I think it has some fantastic music and very interesting music that has managed to stick in my head for years despite the fact this series doesn't get covered often aside from the final dungeon themes. I believe this is the music from the third dungeon in the game, and the first dungeon with a boss battle (that Skarmory always got my anxiety up as a kid!).
This has always been one of my favourite dungeon themes in the first PMD game, and definitely sticks out to me. My music theory knowledge isn't good enough to explain why, but I think there's a lot of major 2nd and perfect 4th stuff going on which makes it kinda ambiguous in feeling to me, and just overall gives me very proggy vibes, which has clearly been up my alley since I was a young child! My approach to this cover wasn't too weird - the original is very bass driven so I kept the bass mostly the same, with some changes later one, and just coming up with riffs that work with the chord progression. As there isn't a typical melody in this song, I definitely gave the riffs more focus than usual to keep the song interesting. In terms of the mix, it was pretty straight forward, though trying to get the one slap bass part to sound good was really tricky!
